Back to Basics Learning Academy was established in 1988 as an alternative to over-crowded day care centers and public school classrooms. It is registered with the Florida Department of Education as a private school and is also licensed by the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services (HRS) and complies with all of the standards put forth by that department.
The school accepts children from age two through first grade. Hours of operation are from 7:30am to 5:30pm. We offer full and part time hours, and for the Toddler and Preschool classes 2,3,or 5 day options. Pre-Kindergarten and First Grade classes meet five days a week. Extended care is available for part time students if necessary. It is our philosophy that learning should be a fun time for children, offering a warm, loving, secure atmosphere where they an explore and discover, as well as begin to learn the basic readiness skills necessary for future success in school. Our purpose is to provide a atmosphere that encourages social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth and development of the child as a whole. The Toddler and Preschool programs include sharing and conversation time, stories, songs, and fingerplays, creative art activities and an introduction to shapes, colors, numbers and letters. The Pre-Kindergarten program places emphasis on the beginning basics skills of reading, writing and math, however the importance of play and exploration is not forgotten. The phonetic approach to reading is used at Back to Basics. We feel that it is an essential part of beginning reading and spelling skills. Also included in the curriculum are health, science, social studies and an introduction to computers. The Kindergarten and First Grade classes provide the students with many opportunities to explore the world around them. Again , the basics are emphasized and students are provided with auditory, tactile , and visual approaches to learning in order to meet each individual child's needs.
